Abstract :

Lab 3 LAM gathers researchers in literature, languages and linguistics from two Pays de la Loire universities: Angers and Maine in Le Mans. The Le Mans site focuses more on developing the first team’s activities around “The Objects of Creation, the Places of Innovations and the Inscriptions of the Subject.”
With 38 full-time researchers and 28 doctoral students, the Lab promotes fundamental research on less-studied media (literary journals, archives, reports), the circulation of information through other means than expository discourse (drama, poetry), and emphasizes historical and sociological contextualization in the study of texts.

Lab 3 LAM includes a number of fields and various language areas (English, French, German, and Spanish).  As such, it intrinsically possesses a strong international dimension. This is apparent in the exchange relations established with universities in Europe and the Americas.

Activities are focused on 4 main points :

  • Doctoral education, with the development of seminanrs and the organization of annual symposia for doctoral students
  • The local promotion of literature and culture in collaboration with the University Library of Maine through readings and lectures
  • One-day conferences with guest speakers in order to synthesize the work done in linguistic, drama, or poetry seminars.
  • International conferences and publications

The Laboratory :

• Permanent staff : in Le Mans (10 professors, 24 associate professors)
• Main international collaborations : Universities of Paderborn (Germany), Santiago de Compostela and Castilla-La-Mancha (Spain), Anglia and Newcastle (U.K.), Arkansasat Fayetteville (USA), Maine at Farmington (USA), American Embassy in Paris : Poets Programme
